Misty II for the Classroom

Misty Robotics, the personal robotics company spun out from Sphero, creator of the BB-8 robot and other connected toys, recently announced the Misty II, a first-of-its-kind easily programmable robot for developers, makers and STEM students. In response to overwhelming demand for the new robot from the education community, Misty Robotics created a special program for STEM teachers and students to make the robot more accessible and affordable. And Misty II is available at a 50 percent discount off MSRP until May 31.

Misty II is a fun, simple way for kids to explore advanced technology, get comfortable with it, and grow along with it from middle school through grad school. Misty II allows for budding programmers to advance their skills beyond LEGO® MINDSTORMS®, filling an existing gap in the education market. With Misty II, students can to learn to code with JavaScript and Python, create CAD designs and 3D print them, and dive deeply into human-computer interaction.

As part of the “Misty II for the Classroom” program, the company is offering two ways for students and educators to get the Misty II robot at a discount:

For Educators: Misty Robotics offers quantity discounts:

  • Discount of $200 per robot on orders from 3 to 9 robots
  • Discount of $300 per robot on orders from 10 to 20 robots
  • Each referral from a qualified educator or STEM group leader will pay out $200 per person referred

For Students:

Bundle offer including the Misty II robot and Sphero SPRK+ now available for $1,699. This offer ends May 31.

In fact, Misty has already been used in classrooms to help STEM students pursue robotics, such as University of Colorado Colorado Springs.

“We’ve been using other robots in our freshman course for a few years and are very excited to include Misty who is a more capable, more programmable robot, for the bachelor of innovation students across 20 different fields,” said Terry Boult, Professor at CU Colorado Springs. “And with the Arduino backpack, students from the engineering college can also add a wide range of sensing and controllable items.”

There’s a world of advanced tech developing right now, and Misty II is the path for students to explore their passions in STEM. For more information, visit their website or read why CEO Tim Enwall believes Misty II is perfect for education.

We look forward to welcoming Ian Bernstein, Founder and Head of Product, on a future episode of Lab Out Loud.
